County Commission says “No” to Tipsy’s

The Gadsden County Commission has voted against allowing Tipsy’s to operate as a full-time bar and lounge in Havana, bringing an end, for now, to a proposal that drew significant public attention.

In a 4–1 decision, commissioners upheld the recommendation of the planning and zoning committee as well as staff recommendations denying the requested special exception for the property located at 6766 Fla-Ga Highway. Commissioner Brenda Holt cast the lone vote in favor of the request, while the remaining board members sided with staff and committee concerns.

The issue prompted a notable turnout at the commission meeting, with community members speaking both in support of and in opposition to the proposed change. Supporters argued the business could bring new energy to the area, and that the owners should be given a chance. Opponents raised concerns about noise, traffic, and the potential negative impact on the surrounding community, including a church and daycare.

Ultimately, the commission’s decision reflects those concerns, keeping the property from transitioning into a full-time bar or lounge under the current request.
