Havana This Week… September 30 – October 4

It’s looking like a pretty good weekend to get out and do something around Havana.

There’s live music, Food Truck Friday, the relocating and reopening of a our art gallery, oysters and fried fish at the museum, and even a breakfast fundraiser nearby if you’re up for getting out of town for a little bit.

Here’s what’s happening around Havana this weekend…

Friday Night… Food, Music and Oysters

Food Truck Friday is back in Havana this Friday with Maad Goat and Stick a Fork In It.

So if you’re trying to figure out what’s for dinner… there’s your answer.

Then head over to Burned Beard Brewing, where Brett Wellman will be playing live from 6-9 p.m.

Over at the Havana History & Heritage Museum, it’s also a big Friday night with Shuck, Fry & Jive from 5-8 p.m.

There will be $1 oysters, a $15 fish plate with two sides, music and dancing. Beer, wine, sodas and water will be available by donation, with the event benefiting the Havana History & Heritage Society.

Basically… Friday night is covered.

Saturday… AHA Opens Its New Location

AHA Art & Fine Craft Gallery is opening its new location at 107 W. 7th Avenue this Saturday. The grand opening runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and there will be live music from Hot Tamale from noon until 3 p.m.

The gallery will also be open Sunday from noon-4 p.m.

It’s another new spot to check out in downtown Havana, and the live music should make for a pretty good Saturday afternoon.

Saturday Night at Burned Beard

If you’re not ready to call it a day after the AHA opening, Greg Brown will be playing live at Burned Beard Brewing from 6-9 p.m. Grab some dinner, have a drink and enjoy some live music to finish off the day.

Saturday Morning… Breakfast for a Cause

If you’re willing to make a short trip, there’s also a Breakfast Buffet Fundraiser Saturday morning at At Ease Campground, 139 Wingate Road in Bainbridge/Lake Seminole.

The breakfast runs from 8-10 a.m. and is being hosted by Wingate Landing Post 340, supporting veterans, youth and the community. The buffet includes eggs, French toast, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, bacon and sausage, grits and pastries.
It’s $15 per person, with kids 10 and under just $6.

Not a bad way to start a Saturday morning… especially when somebody else is doing the cooking.

Looking Ahead… PumpkinFest Is Coming

It won’t be long before downtown Havana is covered in pumpkins.

Havana PumpkinFest is coming up Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

And if you like getting creative, don’t forget about the Scarecrow Contest.

First place gets $150, second place gets $100, and third place gets $50. Entries are due by October 9, so you’ve got a little time to come up with something good.

You can find the entry information on the Havana Main Street PumpkinFest page.

And One More Date for the Calendar…

The Community Trunk or Treat is coming up Friday, October 30 at the Community Park near the Havana Library.

It’s a good one to put on the calendar now, especially if you’ve got kids. We’ll share more details as the event gets closer.

So that’s what’s happening around Havana this week.

What did we miss? If you’ve got an event, fundraiser, yard sale, live music, new business, or anything else happening around town, drop it in the comments.

That’s what Havana This Week is all about… letting everybody know what’s happening right here in and around Gadsden County.

Have a great weekend, Havana!
